Many people complain of a lack of purpose in their life. Our lives in the current consumer society seem to be aimless. We are fast reaching the conclusion that the meaning of life is not found in owning worldly possessions. We are continually being bombarded by ads to buy things we don’t even need.

No matter how much we accumulate we never seem to be happy. There’s always that feeling that something is missing in our lives.

What is that something?

Most people don’t realise that God has put an inherent need in our soul. So that we will always desire something better. Because we don’t recognise it as such, we try to fill it in many ways. We turn to pleasure, always looking for a better rush. We turn to alcohol and drugs and promiscuous living.

We are ever in flux, looking for something better and yet never finding it. Because we look in the wrong places. You say, “Where is God while all this is going on?” That’s a fair question. He is where He has always been, in Heaven. God placed that inherent need in our sole so that we would seek Him instead of what Satan offers us. But, Satan is determined to keep you from seeking God.

(For more information on Satan’s methods read the Devil’s Convention in the Articles section).

God’s love for us is way beyond human love. He wants us to lead full, rich and healthy lives. He has given us the capacity to think, learn, explore and live lives that will honour Him as our Creator. To allow us these privileges and for us to love Him unconditionally, He loves us unconditionally.

Because of His great love for us He has given us the gift of free choice. We can love Him or not Love Him. But, what we must understand is that God’s universe runs on His laws. He has put laws in place that, if obeyed will give us rich, abundant happy lives. However if we break or ignore His laws, then there is a price to be paid.

The choice is ours, we can do it His way or our way. Adam and Eve broke God’s laws in the Garden of Eden. Sin entered the world and the penalty was death. In order to save us from eternal death, Jesus came to earth and paid the penalty for us. He died in our place.
We are here because God has a purpose for every human being on planet earth. The way to fulfilling that purpose is by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. The acceptance of Jesus brings peace and harmony to our lives.

We are better able to cope with life’s troubles. When we are faced with all that life can throw at us, we can call on God for the strength to get us through.

God’s purposes for us here is:

To serve God

Not as slaves, but as His children. When we serve Him our lives take on a new meaning. We have a reason to get out of bed in the morning. We face a new day with God at our side.

To serve others

As we go about our lives treating others with dignity and respect, our lives take on a fulfilment and satisfaction we have never known. The inherent need God put within us becomes satisfied. Our need to keep searching disappears as God meets our needs.

To tell others about God

There is something bigger than this world, it is called God’s Kingdom. He has a place in it for us God has a plan for each of our lives. We belong in God’s Kingdom, not outside of it.

Here are some Bible texts to help you:

Galatians 4:4-7

When the time came to completion, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”

So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

We are sons of God. Heirs with Jesus. If you found out you were the heir to Bill Gates and his fortune you would be over the moon. But, in actual fact you are an heir of God who made Bill Gates, and his fortune.

John 10:10

A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.

Jesus says He will give us life to the full. But, to have this life we have to cooperate with Him.

John 14:1-3

Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me.

In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you.

If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.
Jesus is preparing a place for us in God’s Holy City.

Corinthians 5:1-7

It is widely reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles – a man is living with his father’s wife.

And you are inflated with pride, instead of filled with grief so that he who has committed this act might be removed from your congregation.

For though I am absent in body but present in spirit, I have already decided about the one who has done this thing as though I were present.

When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus, turn that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.

Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast permeates the whole batch of dough?

Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch. You are indeed unleavened, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. <\l >

Jesus turns us into a new person. Our genuine self.

Matthew 28:19 & 20

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus has given every believer a commission. To go and make others disciples. To teach them to obey Jesus. To help put an end to sin on this planet.

Satan is doing his level best to stop us seeing the bigger picture. That bigger picture is that God has created us for a purpose, His purpose. This is the only way humans can find their true selves.
